While the idea of chiropractic and tiny babies can sound like an odd combination, the practice of pediatric chiropractic is ENTIERLY different from traditional chiropractic. Gentle bodywork and chiropractic care is WONDERFUL for newborns. Since there are no “pops or clicks,” newborn chiropractic early on is a gentle, safe, and quite frankly ADORABLE way to decrease tension from in-utero positioning, birth itself, and as just a general check in for any asymmetries that might contribute to growth and development down the line. Bodies that move better, feel better. Bodywork can not only help your little one feel better in their little body, but can also help improve their quality of movement and milestone development!

How can chiropractic help my newborn?

Here are common reasons parents bring their newborns to a pediatric chiropractor:

  • tightness (C-shape position, preference to turn the head to one side, etc.)

When is the best time to bring my newborn to a chiropractor?

The optimal time for a newborn chiropractic appointment is as early as possible! ESPECIALLY if there are any concerns as this helps us catch things early and allows us to provide at-home care recommendations to help decrease tension/discomfort, provide referrals when needed, and optimize your baby’s development.

Why would I take my newborn to a chiropractor if they don’t have any concerns?

If there aren’t any major concerns such as feeding, GI issues, milestone struggles, etc., there is more of a focus on overall wellness and relaxing bodywork. In fact, most babies fall asleep during the session and many parents report better sleep and bowel movements after a session. Dr. Dani also offers plenty of education for parents in the areas of:

  • what to expect/look for as their little one starts moving through the world (milestone development)

  • home care recommendations such as infant massage and play ideas to support milestone development

  • tips and tricks for helping to soothe your little

  • resources for referrals (lactation, pediatric dentists, etc.)

What does chiropractic treatment look like for a newborn?

Chiropractic for infants is incredibly gentle and truly looks more like a massage and gentle stretching. It’s incredibly common for babies to visibly calm and relax into their bodies as the hour long appointment progresses. Babies respond to gentle care quickly, so it typically does not take many visits to achieve our goals. There are no treatment “plans” or packages needed. At BCR, parents are given home-care recommendations so they have the tools necessary to help their little one feel more comfortable which decreases the number of visits as well!
